Fire Ant Control in Tampa
At Fire Ant Control, LLC, we guarantee or will refund your payment! Let us help protect your residential, agricultural or commercial property in Tampa from aggressive and destructive red imported fire ants.
Headquartered in Bokeelia, Florida, Fire Ant Control and our sister companies serve the entire imported fire ant quarantine area of the southeastern U.S., and are capable of treating up to 1,000 acres per day.
Red imported fire ants (Solenopsis invicta) are native to South America. They are the worst of all fire ant varieties because they reproduce rapidly, are more aggressive than other species, and have a very painful venomous sting that can cause serious medical problems.
They are known to attack people, plants and animals, and can cause extensive damage to plants and crops, cement slabs, air-conditioning equipment and electrical wires.
Fire Ant Control is a recognized specialist in controlling red fire ants on any size or type of land. Careful application of our potent, food-like granular bait kills the ant colonies from the inside out.
Within weeks, your property will be free of fire ants and, with an application every four months, the treatment will prevent further fire ant colonization.
Fire Ant Mounds & Colonies
The telltale signs of fire ant colonies are round, flattened mounds of loose soil. Fire ants are master architects; they build and live in a vast network of interconnected subterranean tunnels that extend outward and downward from these central mounds.
Within each colony are workers and queens. Workers build the nests (mounds), take care of the queen and her eggs, scavenge for food, and defend the colony. Queens can live for two to six years and lay from 1,500 to 5,000 eggs per day, which explains why fire ants multiply so quickly.
Mounds can be found around stumps and trees, in rotting logs and under sidewalks, but many fire ants prefer open areas, such as lawns, golf courses, parks, playgrounds, athletic fields, meadows, pastures, and cultivated fields.
Areas with single queen colonies may have 40 to 150 mounds and about 7 million red fire ants per acre. If infested with multiple queen colonies, there may be 200 or more mounds and up to 40 million red fire ants per acre.
If you disturb the ground near a fire ant mound, they will aggressively rise up in great numbers from beneath the mound and attack anything that is standing above or near it.
Fire Ant Control Treatment
Fire Ant Control’s proven treatment focuses on sterilizing the queen. Our granular bait is ingested by the workers and carried down into the colony, causing the fire ants to die naturally. Extermination is not instantaneous but, once the queen has been sterilized, the entire colony will disappear, and no new ants will be born.
Experts agree that a complete lifecycle from egg to adult takes between 22 and 38 days. This means that, within one to two months, most if not all of your fire ant mounds will disappear.
Fire Ant Control is fully licensed and insured. Our bait is regulated and approved for use on public and private lands. On private property, there is no re-entry interval, which means that you, your family, your pets and other animals can walk anywhere on the property immediately after a treatment has been applied.
Our service is guaranteed for four months. Because fire ants fly, they will eventually come back. For this reason, we recommend having your property treated three times a year for the best results.
