Fire Ant Bait

The key to fire ant control is to take advantage of the treatment solution from Fire Ant Control, LLC. The potent granular bait we use causes the fire ants to die naturally.  It is superior to sprays and insecticides that are short-lived (only killing surface ants), sometimes dangerous, and very expensive.

Headquartered in Bokeelia, Florida, Fire Ant Control and our sister companies serve the entire imported fire ant quarantine area of the southeastern U.S., and we are capable of treating up to 1,000 acres per day.

About Fire Ants

Fire ants build nests outdoors in mounds of soil and live underneath them in an elaborate network of subterranean tunnels where they reproduce rapidly. Even when you don’t see them, they are expanding beneath your feet, and thousands of them can live in a single colony.

Colonies consist of workers and queens. Workers build the nests (mounds), take care of the queen and her eggs, scavenge for food, and defend the colony. Queens can live for two to six years and lay from 1,500 to 5,000 eggs per day, which explains why fire ants multiply so quickly.

These destructive and dangerous ants adore moist land, so Florida is right up their alley. Favorite nesting grounds include open, sunny areas, and their mounds are commonly found around stumps and trees, in rotting logs and under sidewalks, as well as in lawns, parks, playgrounds, golf courses, athletic fields, meadows, pastures, and cultivated fields.

Fire ants also pose a serious public health threat, injuring more than 20 million adults and children each year with their stings. Their stings can produce a broad range of reactions from mild localized pain and swelling to severe and deadly anaphylactic shock.

The Fire Ant Control Solution

It is possible to treat fire ant mounds with liquid insecticide products as well as chemical dusts and granules. These synthetic chemicals can be poured into or spread around the mounds and may be successful at killing some of the ants. However, this temporary method will not eliminate the colony, and the chemicals can be toxic to people, pets and livestock.

Our potent, food-like granular bait contains an insect growth regulator that sterilizes the queen and is approved for use around people, pets, livestock, and on pastures, hay fields and farmland.

Worker ants eat the bait and carry it down into the colony, causing the fire ants to die naturally.  Once the queen is sterilized, the entire colony will disappear, and no new ants will be born. Within weeks, your property will be 85-95% free of fire ants.

Because new colonies can invade when ants fly off to mate and start a new colony, or when an existing colony expands into new territory, we highly recommend treatments every four months to keep these troublemakers under control.

Fire Ant Control’s proven treatment works for properties ranging from small residential lots to thousands of acres. Our bait is regulated and approved for use on public and private lands.
