About Fire Ants

Fire ants build nests outdoors in mounds of soil and live underneath them in an elaborate network of subterranean tunnels where they reproduce rapidly. Even when you don’t see them, they are expanding beneath your feet, and thousands of them can live in a single colony.

Fire ant mounds resemble worked soil, and can be a few inches to a few feet across. When your athletic field or park is inhabited by single queen colonies, you may be dealing with 40 to 150 mounds and about 7 million red fire ants per acre. If they are multiple queen colonies, you can expect 200 or more mounds and up to 40 million fire ants per acre.

Fire ants prefer to build nests near bleachers, around goal posts and dugouts, in pavement cracks, and near HVAC equipment. They also nest in electrical and utility housings, moving soil into the units and causing shorts and other mechanical problems.

Biting (Stinging) Hazard

Red imported fire ants (Solenopsis invicta) infest more than 330 million acres across the southern U.S. and pose a serious public health threat, injuring more than 20 million adults and children each year with their stings.

They are very sensitive to their mounds being disturbed and react aggressively with swarming and relentless stinging by hundreds, sometimes thousands, of ants. Some people are allergic to the venom, and others may go into anaphylactic shock, a condition that requires urgent medical attention to prevent a deadly outcome.

Even though few people have extreme reactions, serious incidents are avoidable and managers and landowners can be held liable for harm caused by fire ants on their property.

Fire ants also destroy and kill many beneficial organisms, including bees, butterflies, young birds, mice, rabbits, lizards, turtles, and even crocodiles!

If you are responsible for a recreational area, such as a city or county park, athletic field, playground or golf course, taking care of a fire ant problem on your property today can help avoid future problems.

Be Proactive

Fire Ant Control, LLC is the best fire ant killer around! Our proven fire ant treatment focuses on sterilizing the queen. The potent granular bait is ingested by the worker ants and carried down into the colony, causing the fire ants to die naturally.  It is superior to sprays and insecticides that are short-lived (only killing surface ants), sometimes dangerous, and very expensive.

Our treatment is guaranteed for 4 months. We highly recommend treatments three times per year to keep these troublemakers under control. Not only do existing and new fire ants consume all of the bait, but fire ants are like weeds. If you stop treating for them, they will come back.

Whether you are a private owner or a municipality, Fire Ant Control, LLC offers the best fire ant killer for athletic fields, playgrounds and parks and can solve your fire ant problems. Call us at (239) 312-8200 for a free estimate.
