The Dangers of Fire Ants

Most people are aware of the pain that red imported fire ants cause when they bite or sting. When their mounds are disturbed, hundreds of ants will swarm out of the ground and aggressively sting an intruder within seconds.

People and animals alike may be allergic to the venom in their sting. It’s also possible for anaphylactic shock to occur (in people and pets), requiring quick attention to prevent a deadly outcome.

Fire ants have been known to kill small animals and pets, particularly very young animals, caged animals, and those that are old and unable to move out of harm’s way.

They can also cause extensive damage to gardens and crops and infest machinery and electrical equipment. They chew on insulation and can cause short circuits in air conditioning, lighting and other mechanical equipment. The mounds themselves can damage pickups and ATVs and cause horses to fall and riders to take bad spills.

How to Control Fire Ants

If you’ve seen just a few fire ants or mounds, you may be thinking you have them under control. Think again! Properties with single-queen colonies may have 40 to 150 mounds and about 7 million red fire ants per acre. If infested with multiple-queen colonies, there may be 200 or more mounds and up to 40 million red fire ants per acre!

Fire Ant Control is a recognized specialist in controlling red fire ants on any size or type of land. Careful application of our potent, food-like granular bait kills the ant colonies from the inside out.

Worker ants eat the bait and carry it down into the colony, causing the fire ants to die naturally.  Once the queen is sterilized, the entire colony will disappear, and no new ants will be born.

Our proven treatment works for properties ranging from small residential lots to thousands of acres. Our bait is regulated and approved for use on public and private lands.

Because new colonies can develop when winged adult ants fly off to mate and start a new colony, or when an existing colony decides to expand into new territory, we highly recommend treatments every four months to keep these troublemakers under control.
