Keeping Your Animals Safe

Household Pets

When a fire ant mound is disturbed, even accidentally, thousands of stinging ants can be hazardous to pets that are running, playing or digging nearby. The ants are particularly attracted to animals weakened by wounds or open sores, and will readily sting the abdomen and areas of the animal’s body that have little or no hair, such as the eyes, ears, nose and muzzle.

Horses & Cattle

Fire ant bites can be deadly to injured horses, unborn foals (if the mother is stung), newborns if they lie down or are born on or near a mound, penned or corralled animals, and those that are old or weak. In cattle operations, red imported fire ants injure and kill newborn calves by stinging soft moist tissues, including the eyes.

Chickens, Ducks & Geese

Fire ants can be a serious hazard for chickens, ducks and geese, especially for hatching eggs and baby chicks. If the birds accidentally disturb a fire ant mound, swarms of aggressive ants will quickly emerge to repeatedly sting and bite it. The fire ant venom can cause great pain and, in some cases, will kill the bird, depending on its size and the number of attacking ants.

Treatment

If your animal is attacked, get it away from the fire ant source quickly. Brush away all fire ants from its body, and try to avoid getting stung yourself. Spraying the animal with water will just aggravate the ants, causing them to hold on tight and sting more viciously. If the attack is severe, you may need to visit a veterinarian to treat the stings and pustules or blisters that develop.

Our Proven Treatment

Fire Ant Control’s proven treatment will protect your animals (and your family and friends) from potentially lethal fire ant bites and stings, and preserve the beneficial native ant populations on your property.

We guarantee that our fully licensed and insured service will rid 85-95% of the fire ants from your residential, commercial or agricultural property for four months at a time, or your money back.

The bait we use contains an insect growth regulator that sterilizes the queen and is approved for use around people, pets, livestock, and on pastures, hay fields and farmland.

Worker ants eat the bait and carry it down into the colony, causing the fire ants to die naturally.  Extermination is not immediate but, once the queen has been sterilized, the entire colony will disappear, and no new ants will be born.

On private property, there is no re-entry interval, which means that you, your family, your pets and other animals can walk anywhere on the property immediately after a treatment has been applied.
