What Attracts Fire Ants Inside Your Home?

Fire ants can hitch rides inside your home aboard potted plants, mulch, outdoor toys and objects from your lawn. Other things can attract them inside, such as:

Food – Fire ants are always looking for food to bring back to the rest of their colony. Your pet’s food can be very attractive to them. Whether you store the food indoors or outdoors, make sure to seal it up tight. Feed your pets away from the house, if possible, and quickly clean up any food the pets didn’t eat.

Water – Fire ants require a certain amount of moisture to survive and may also enter your home in search of water. To avoid attracting fire ants, make sure any leaks inside your home are repaired, and inspect the pipes within the walls. Make sure your exterior faucets do not drip and that your roof drains properly.

Gaps & holes – Fire ants are not very big (worker ants vary in length from 1/8-inch to about 1/4-inch long), so they can get inside your home through tiny holes in exterior walls and through holes for plumbing and wiring. If you find points of entry, seal them up tightly or contact a contractor to fix the problem.

When you find fire ants nesting outside and coming into your house for food, water or another reason, contact Fire Ant Control, LLC to have the nest outside treated with our proven fire ant treatment.

Leave Fire Ant Control to the Professionals!

Dealing with fire ants on your own can be dangerous. Fire ants can inflict multiple stings and bites on people and animals as they defend their colonies. And, if you fail to eliminate the queen, you won’t ever get rid of them entirely.

The potent, food-like granular bait we use at Fire Ant Control, LLC contains an insect growth regulator that sterilizes the queen and is approved for use around people, pets, livestock, and on pastures, hay fields and farmland. It is superior to sprays and insecticides that only kill surface ants, are sometimes dangerous, and are very expensive.

Extermination is not immediate but, once the worker ants have eaten the bait and carried it down into the colony, sterilizing the queen, the entire colony will disappear, and no new ants will be born.

Experts agree that a complete lifecycle from egg to adult takes between 22 and 38 days. This means that, within about one month, you will be 85-95% fire ant free.

Because new colonies can develop when winged adult ants fly off to mate and start a new colony, or when an existing colony decides to expand into new territory, we highly recommend treatments every four months to keep fire ants under control.
