About Red Imported Fire Ants
Red imported fire ants (Solenopsis invicta) accidentally arrived in Mobile, Alabama from South America in the 1930s. They have gradually spread into areas of the United States, such as Florida, where the tropical climate and regular rainfall create a fire ant paradise.
These troublemakers are the worst of all fire ant species because they mate several times each year, reproduce quickly, are more aggressive than other species, and have an extremely painful venomous sting that can cause serious medical problems.
Fire Ant Control can help exterminate your fire ants. Within weeks, your property will be protected and, with an application every four months, our treatment will prevent further fire ant colonization.
Treating Fire Ants on Your Own
Dealing with fire ants on your own can be dangerous because they can inflict multiple venomous stings on people, pets and livestock as they defend their colonies. Their stings are painful and, much like bee stings, can be serious or even lethal.
Fire Ant Control is a recognized specialist in controlling red fire ants on properties ranging from small residential lots to thousands of acres. Careful application of our potent, food-like granular bait kills the ant colonies from the inside out.
Extermination is not instantaneous but, once the worker ants have eaten the bait and carried it down into the colony and sterilized the queen, the entire colony will disappear, and no new ants will be born. Within weeks, your property will be nearly free of fire ants.
Keeping Your Pets Safe from Fire Ants
Fire ants have been known to sting and even kill small animals and pets, particularly very young animals, caged animals, and those that are old and unable to move out of harm’s way.
The ants are also attracted to weak animals that suffer from wounds or open sores, and will readily sting the abdomen and areas of its body that have little or no hair, such as the eyes, nose, ears and muzzle.
When a fire ant mound is disturbed, thousands of stinging ants can be hazardous to pets that are running, playing or digging nearby.
If your dog or other pet is attacked, get it away from the fire ant source. Remove all fire ants from its body and try to avoid getting stung yourself. Spraying the pet with water won’t work, and slapping at them will just aggravate them; the fire ants will hold on tight and sting more viciously.
If the attack is severe, you may need to visit a veterinarian and treat the stings and pustules or blisters that develop with an ointment for several days.
Fire Ant Control’s proven treatment will protect your pets (and your family and friends) from potentially lethal fire ant bites and stings, and preserve the beneficial native ant populations on your property.
