About Fire Ants
Red imported fire ants (Solenopsis invicta) are a well-known and troublesome pest throughout the southeastern United States. Their painful stings can injure both humans and animals.
They build nests outdoors in mounds of soil and live beneath them in an intricate network of underground tunnels. Fire ants prefer open, sunny areas such as pastures, crop fields and lawns, and will form either single-queen or multi-queen colonies.
If there are single queen colonies, you may have 40 to 150 mounds and about 7 million red fire ants per acre. With multiple queen colonies, you may have 200 or more mounds and up to 40 million red fire ants per acre.
When the mounds are disturbed, even accidentally, hundreds of ants will swarm out of the ground and aggressively sting everything around them. Some people are allergic to the venom in the bite, and others may go into anaphylactic shock, a potentially deadly condition.
The presence of fire ants in pastures can impact horse operations in many ways. Mounds cause horses to fall and riders to take bad spills. Large mounds can damage pickup trucks, ATVs and hay equipment.
Fire ant bites can be deadly to injured livestock and wildlife, unborn foals (if the mother is stung), and newborns. They can also infest feed and impact hay production.
How Our Fire Ant Treatment Works
To eliminate a fire ant colony, the queen must be killed, and all queens must be killed in multi-queen colonies. If the queens are not killed, the colony will most likely establish itself in another nearby area.
Careful application of our powerful, food-like granular bait kills the ant colonies from the inside out. The bait contains an insect growth regulator that sterilizes the queen and is approved for use around people, pets, livestock, and on farmland, pastures, and hay fields.
The potent granular bait is tested by the worker ants and then carried down into the colony, sterilizing the queen and leaving the fire ants to die naturally. The entire colony will disappear within weeks because no new ants will be born.
Fire ants fly to mate, however, so they can return. For this reason, we recommend having your property treated three times a year to prevent further fire ant re-colonization.
We guarantee that our treatment will rid 85-95% of the fire ants from your residential, commercial or agricultural property for four months at a time, or your money back.
