Horse Friendly Fire Ant KillerFire Ant Control is a recognized specialist in controlling red fire ants on any size or type of land. Careful application of our potent, food-like granular bait kills the ant colonies from the inside out.

Once the worker ants have eaten the bait and carried it down into the colony, sterilizing the queen, the entire colony will disappear, and no new ants will be born. Within weeks, your property will be nearly free of fire ants.

Fire Ants and Their Mounds

Red imported fire ants (Solenopsis invicta) are industrious architects. They build nests outdoors in mounds of soil that are about the size of dinner plates and live underneath them in an elaborate network of subterranean tunnels.

Within each colony are workers and queens. Workers build the nests (mounds), take care of the queen and her eggs, scavenge for food, and defend the colony. Queens can live for two to six years and lay from 1,500 to 5,000 eggs per day, which explains why fire ants multiply so quickly.

Even when you don’t see these destructive pests, they are expanding right under your feet, with thousands of fire ants living in a single colony. If your property happens to be infested with multiple-queen colonies, there may be 200 or more mounds and up to 40 million red fire ants per acre.

The Damage They Cause

In humans, fire ant bites can produce a broad range of reactions, from mild localized pain and swelling to severe and deadly anaphylactic shock.

In livestock, fire ant bites can be deadly to injured horses, unborn foals (if the mother is stung), newborns, penned or corralled animals, and those that are old and unable to move out of harm’s way.

Fire ants nest in rotting logs, around trees, under pavement and buildings, and inside electrical equipment and utilities, sometimes causing short circuits. They can also infest feed and impact hay production.

Leave Fire Ant Control to the Professionals!

Our powerful bait contains an insect growth regulator that sterilizes the queen and is approved for use around people, pets, livestock, and on farmland, pastures, and hay fields. It is superior to sprays and insecticides that only kill surface ants, are sometimes dangerous, and are very expensive.

Because fire ants fly away from the colony to mate, they will eventually come back. Therefore, we recommend treating your property three times a year to prevent further fire ant re-colonization.

Fire Ant Control’s potent fire ant killer is the best way to help protect your land and livestock. It is horse-friendly and can be applied to pastures, rangeland, meadows, lawns, landscape areas, corrals and other animal holding areas. Call us at (239) 312-8200 for a free estimate.
