Where Do Fire Ants Live?
Have you wondered where fire ants live and how they survive through severe weather to do so much damage to people, pets, livestock, plants and equipment? Fire Ant Control, LLC can help you understand their habits.
Fire Ant Control, LLC, specializes in protecting residential, agricultural and commercial properties from the damage and destruction inflicted by red imported fire ants (Solenopsis invicta). We are the best fire ant killer around and are recognized specialists in controlling red fire ants on any size or type of land.
Fire Ants and Their Mounds
Red imported fire ants are hard-working architects. They build their nests outdoors in mounds of soil and the colony of ants lives beneath them in an elaborate network of underground tunnels.
Fire ant mounds are round, flattened mounds of loose soil about the size of dinner plates, with no visible openings. They are formed by ants pushing up soil as they tunnel through the earth.
Property with single queen colonies may have 40 to 150 mounds and about 7 million red fire ants per acre. If infested with multiple queen colonies, there may be 200 or more mounds and up to 40 million red fire ants per acre.
Mounds operate somewhat like solar roof panels, regulating temperatures and moisture conditions in the colony below to provide the best conditions for reproduction.
When soil temperatures are hot enough, such as during summer months, the mounds are less important, but they help provide warmth during cooler times of the year and help the fire ants survive severe weather.
A lack of noticeable mounds may make you think that you haven’t been infested with fire ants or that they’re under control, but don’t be fooled. Their colonies can still be expanding right under your feet, sight unseen.
Even periods of heavy rainfall or floods won’t harm or drown fire ants! The ants emerge from their nests, form a huge watertight ball or raft, and float along waiting for a dry area or object that can shelter them until they can re-establish a nest (mound) in the soil.
Proven Fire Ant Killer
Fire Ant Control’s proven fire ant treatment focuses on sterilizing the queen. Our granular bait is ingested by the workers and carried down into the colony, causing the fire ants to die naturally. Extermination is not instantaneous but, once the queen has been sterilized, the entire colony will disappear, and no new ants will be born.
Our bait is regulated and approved for use on public and private lands. Our service is fully licensed and insured and guaranteed for four months. Because fire ants fly, they will eventually come back. For this reason, we recommend having your property treated three times a year for the best results.
Our proven treatment works for properties ranging from small residential lots to thousands of acres. Our bait is regulated and approved for use on public and private lands.
